Just a quick one today, Kevin Tudge from Ronda and Laura Thompson of Will Dance for Chocolate fame teamed up back in 2010 and this song was made. They shot a video for it which you can see here and if you like what you hear, you can download the track for free by clicking below. I've seen and filmed both artists several times over the years but I've never seen them on the same stage at the same time before so for a picture I've pinched one of Andy O'Hare's snaps. It's ok, he won't mind.

Benji Tranter is a singer/songwriter from Hereford who lives in London. Here we have his lovely take on the Mystery Jets song 'Hand Me Down', you can hear the original by clicking here. NOTE: This download is a .wav file which is 32MB so you'll want to run it through an mp3 converter if you want to keep it. I wish musicans on SoundCloud would realise that people don't want wavs. ...and Upstairs, Nurses are a math-rock band from Birmingham. Photo by Albert Testani. More to follow after the gig tonight. J A W S are an indie rock band from Birmingham who've been making waves recently (see what I did there? Boxxy would have) who took their name not from the legendary Jaws film but from the equally legendary Bond villian. They play around the West Midlands so if you like what you hear below then remember their name, you never know when you might see it on a gig listing. Their new single 'Toucan Surf' is out now. An Exciting Gypsy Jazz Manouche Trio featuring the Virtuosic Guitar of Madi Stimpson accompanied by the Melodic and Bouncy Guitar of Stuart Neal and the Double Bass of Michaël Lacoult in a true ‘Hot Club de Paris’ style. The palette of the Trio also expands their Manouche repertoire with an eclectic mix of acoustic tracks and some famous songs. An exciting swinging Trio! Madi Stimpson has been a popular performer on the UK Folk & Jazz scene and for most of the 90s travelled around Europe with his guitar particularly spending time in Belgium, Holland and Ireland. His guitar playing draws from traditional jazz manouche, bluegrass and Irish folk. Stuart Neal started playing pedal steel guitar and five-string banjo with the Harpers Ferry (country rock) before becoming a freelance musician. In 2001, Stuart discovered a passion for gypsy jazz music whilst attending a Django Reinhardt workshop. They're playing at The Great Malvern Hotel on Saturday 1st September. It's a free gig too, so if you're in the area then no there's no excuses that I'd accept for you not being there. Benji Tranter is a folk singer/songwriter from Hereford who lives in London. Today what's on offer is a track that he describes as a christmas songs and 80's pop pastiche. It definetely makes me think of 80's christmas jumpers and Wham! Download it and when Christmas comes around this year, you can add it to your own original x-mas playlist and advoid all the overplaying cheesy christmas singles. There'll be no cars big as bars or pistols carved out of wood, just some decent singer/songwriters, that's how it's going to be going down in my house anyway. Local Worcester music impresario Tina V fronts up her band This Wicked Tongue, hosts her own open mic night, is a judge on Txt Factor and has a solo career as well. What we have here is the title track from her first EP of the same name from back in 2009. There's 8 other tracks available for download plus a sampler track, it's all there for the taking. Google Analytics has shown me that I get twice as many visitors to this site from Birmingham than I do from Worcester so if that includes you, you may have seen Tina play at The Free Love Club at the Island Bar or her band at the O2 Academy. They're currently in a competition to win a record deal with RoadRunner records, so if you do know her (despite what she says) or you just like what you hear, why not click-through to this page and check out her band. You need to create a profile to vote but if you don't particulary feel like going through that process, you can still listen to three of their newest tracks on there which will push their play counts up a little and make them seem that little bit more popular. Ah go on, you know it's not that hard to sit on your bum listening to quality music! Bigger Than Seattle are an alt.rock band from Stourbridge whose name I've heard in conversation several times, but still haven't gotten around to seeing. They've got a free 7 track demo album/ep up for free download on their SoundCloud page, but I've just put up 'Jellybean' here as it's the stand out track for me. Clearly influenced by Jeff Buckley but respectfully done, with a nice clean guitar motif underpinning the whole piece. The whole set has been uploaded as .wav files so expect some relatively big files but just run them through an mp3 convertor and edit the iD3 tags in WinAmp and you're all good. Benji Tranter is a folk singer/songwriter from Hereford who currently lives in London. What we've got there is a two track single called 'Lucky and the Spur of the Moment' from 2010. If you like what you hear here then he has several festival dates coming up so keep an eye open for him, I know for a fact that he'll be playing at Nozstock festival so maybe if you're local, you'll see him there. He's also working on recording his first album so 2012 looks set to be an interesting year for this young Hereford musician. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
